HSE show safer ways of
working from height at Interbuild
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be exhibiting
at Interbuild 2006 (hall 7, stand 20), with a stand highlighting the dangers
of working at height and offering practical guidance on how to manage the
risks. Last year 28 deaths in construction were due to falls from height,
that is why one of HSE’s key aims is to reduce falls from height.
Speaking from the HSE stand, Sharon Geeson, a health and safety advisor for
HSE said: “Falls from height are often preventable, we are giving visitors
to our stand here at Interbuild, practical tips and guidance to enable them
to work at height safely. HSE’s advice for people working at height is to
avoid work at height where possible; always plan any work at height; select
the right equipment for the job; train people to use the equipment properly;
inspect the equipment before first use; and always supervise the work.”
Health and safety advisors will be available on the stand to give general
advice on working at height. The key areas that will be covered are scaffolds,
ladders and fragile roofs. A number of videos demonstrating the risks of
working at height will be shown, each offering practical examples of how
to reduce risks through the use of scaffolds, platforms and ladders .
